The grant was provided by Innovate UK, part of UK Research & Innovation, to create a high-purity single-photon output rate with an output rate exceeding currently available commercial lasers. Potential applications include high-speed quantum key distribution, quantum information processing, and serving as a brighter source for imaging or sensing applications. AegiQ is a spin-off from The University of Sheffield that was founded in 2019. The Fraunhofer Centre for Applied Photonics (CAP) in Glasgow, Scotland is a world-leading center in the field of applied laser research and development.
