Archer Exploration Starts Carbon-Based QC Chip Development Project

Archer Exploration in Australia has started a project they call 12CQ with the aim of building a carbon-based quantum computing device (chip) capable of room-temperature quantum information processing. The development will take place at the University of Sydney Research & Prototype Foundry Core Research Facility at the Sydney Nanoscience Hub which will provide a world-class infrastructure, equipment, and engineers required to build the chip. Archer had previously licensed this technology from the University of Sydney and it is based upon operating electron spins in conducting carbon nanospheres as quantum bits at room temperature as described in this paper published in Nature Communications. They believe that the room temperature operation of the device will give them a strong competitive advantage when they complete the project.
