It has been a busy time for Cambridge Quantum Computing with several announcements in the past few days. First, they announced a collaboration with the Japanese company Nippon Steel to provide tools that will be used to research quantum computing applications in the areas of material science and mathematical optimization. Nippon Steel is the world’s third largest steel producer by volume and had revenue of about $43 Billion in 2017 with over 90,000 employees. We expect CQC to be using their t|ket> software stack along with their EUMEN software package which was created to facilitate the design of pharmaceuticals, specialty chemicals, performance materials and agrochemicals. CQC announced a similar deal with Total S.A., the French oil and gas company just a couple of weeks ago.
The second announcement was the release of version 0.5 of their t|ket> quantum software platform. This release provide support for AQT and Honeywell Quantum Solutions ion trap based quantum computers, and also for Microsoft’s Q# simulator and resource estimator. Other new features in this release include:
Support for circuits with classical control, conditional gates, and mid-circuit measurements
Measurement reduction via Pauli-term diagonalization
New optimization routine for Trotterized Hamiltonians
New parametrized 2-qubit gates (ESWAP and FSim)
Control of logging levels
Inspection of detailed gate error information
Inspection of implicit permutations introduced by routing
QASM streaming API
Numerous small improvements to API, documentation and performance
Python 3.8 support
Improved dependency management
The first feature list, classical control, conditional gates, and mid-circuit measurements is an interesting one since that supports some unique features included in the Honeywell ion trap computer.
