D-Wave and Forschungszentrum Jülich announced that they have installed the latest D-Wave Advantage Performance quantum annealer at the Forschungszentrum Jülich Supercomputing Centre in Julich, Germany. This 5000 qubit machine is the first Leap™ quantum cloud-based system and quantum annealer located outside North America and will be available to European users at Forschungszentrum Jülich immediately in the cloud via Leap. Leap is the operating environment that D-Wave has developed for using their quantum annealers. Providing the capability of having cloud access to a quantum computer located in Europe, rather than North America, is viewed favorable by many European users. In addition, Forschungszentrum Jülich announced it has created a new facility at the supercomputing center called JUNIQ ( Jülich UNified Infrastructure for Quantum computing) to serve as a user facility for open innovation that provides users with a unified quantum computing platform as a service and the associated competencies for user support and joint software development. They anticipate that the JUNIQ facility, which has been under construction since October 2019, will contain various types of quantum computers and simulators. JUNIQ will also be organizing various training, workshop, summer schools, and other events to help users build expertise in understanding quantum technology and quantum applications. For additional information about this announcement, you can read a press release available here and a several web pages that show a recording and other information from the January 17th, 2022 announcement ceremony here.
