Quantum Software Engineer

We are currently looking for a Delft based Scientific Software Engineer for our partner within the quantum computing domain.
Your role
As a Scientific Software Engineer, you are responsible for developing, maintaining and supporting software that enables quantum experiments across the QuTech labs.
This software includes, but is not limited to:
- Instrument drivers
- Data handling
- Analysis software and graphical user interfaces
You are therefore a generalist, comfortable to take up various tasks at different levels of abstraction. You are able to trade off the needs of the various users and choose for reusable solutions where possible. Software quality and maintainability is important to you.
You are able to interact efficiently with researchers in the quantum domain (Ph.D. candidates and postdocs) and are able to translate their domain-specific needs to the software domain. A background in or affinity with quantum physics/theory is useful.

Its focus on quantum technology is among the most far-reaching and challenging technologies of our time. To address this challenge.
You will work on a radically new technology with world-changing potential.
Their mission is to develop scalable prototypes of a quantum computer and an inherently safe quantum internet, based on the fundamental laws of quantum mechanics.
Your profile
Software development experience (5+ years)
Python (5+ years of practical experience)
Affinity with quantum physics
Familiarity with FPGAs
Implementation experience with various communication protocols (RS232, SPI, I2C, etc.)
Team player, but able to work independently on complex problems
Experience with:
- All aspects of the software lifecycle: design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance
- Low-level software (firmware, Linux device drivers, etc.)
- Experience with C and/or C++ is a plus
- CI/CD
- Agile workflows
- Value software quality, documentation, and maintainability
EU nationality, or a valid work permit for the Netherlands.
Key technologies:
• Python

• Experience working with Linux (including system administration)
• Skilled in using Git and Gitlab
• Software development
Soft Skills:
• Flexibility / all-rounder on different type of coding languages. Preferred languages are mentioned above. Or in other words not a too strict preference for one particular language.
