Deloitte is holding a quantum climate challenge that seeks to have participants use quantum computers to simulate materials that filter carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere to help reach the 2°C temperature rise goal for minimizing the affects of global warming. They will be awarding a total of 12000 Euros ($12900 USD) to the top five finalists who submit solutions. Registered participants will get exclusive access to a 16 qubit IBM quantum computer for testing their solutions and the top 5 finalists will get exclusive access to one of IBM's 27 qubit systems. In addition participates will also get AWS credits for running Amazon Braket as well as access to a classical chemistry simulation platform from Quantistry.
The timeline for this challenge is as follows:
January 19, 2023: Deloitte will hold a kickoff webinar to introduce potential participants to the problem and the rules and procedures of this challenge.
January 26, 2023: Deadline for participants to submit technical questions about the challenge.
March 12, 2023: Deadline for submitting the results of the tasks outlined in the challenge including your proposed algorithm, a comparison against a classical algorithm, your concepts on how to scale your solution, and a resource estimate of a quantum computer that could run your scaled solution
March 24, 2023: Announcement of the top five finalists from the submitted results
Week of April 17, 2023: Finalists will present their solutions at a pitch event and a winner selected.
The cash awards for the five finalists are as follows:
5000 euros for the 1st place team
3000 euros for the 2nd place team
2000 euros for the 3rd place team
1000 euros for the 4th place team
1000 euros for the 5th place team
