The new center's goal is to develop new quantum computers based upon both ion trap and superconducting technologies. ETH has already developed a superconducting quantum chip with 17 qubits and they are now looking to develop a quantum computer with 100 qubits. The center will initially be funded with 32 million Swiss Francs ($35M USD), will employ about 30 researchers and will be located on the Paul Scherrer Institut campus in Villigen, Canton of Aargau, Switzerland. Additional information is available in a news release posted on the ETH website here.
