Nanofiber Quantum Technologies (NanoQT) is a quantum hardware startup located in Japan that is pursuing a technology of nanofiber-based Cavity QED (Quantum Electrodynamics) based upon research by Professor Takao Aoki of Waseda University's Faculty of Science and Engineering. The funding came from Waseda University Ventures, a new fund set up last year that specializes in startup investments in the deep tech area based upon research created at universities and other research institutes. This investment was made last August, but was only made public recently. NanoGT's Cavity QED (quantum electrodynamics) technology is a hybrid system of atoms and light. It can provide fully connected qubits and the company claims that it can be easily scaled to 10,000 qubits in a single cavity. In addition, they indicate that the nanofiber resonators can be coupled with optical fibers for communication with low loss to create a quantum network for additional scalability. Additional information about this investment is available in a blog posting on the Waseda University Ventures' website here (in Japanese). Additional information about NanoQT and their technology can be seen on their website here.
