Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech, IQM, and GMV Will Partner to Install a Quantum Computer at the Barcelon...

Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech is a quantum hardware startup based in Barcelona, Spain developing an analog quantum processor using superconducting based quantum annealers. GMV is a privately owned Spanish technology company with over 3,000 employees in 12 countries. Together, the companies are partnering to install two quantum processors at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) that will be integrated with the upcoming MareNostrum 5 supercomputer, slated one of the most powerful supercomputers in the world. The timeline is to finish the installation of MareNostrum 5 by July of this year and install the infrastructure for the quantum processors in Q3 of this year with completion by the end of the year. Qilimanjaro will be responsible for supplying the quantum chips, along with the associated access and control software and also the installation and maintenance. GMV will be responsible in this project for the classical systems and network infrastructure. Once the installation is complete, BSC plans on providing cloud access to European researchers and companies for solving problems in areas such as logistics, finance, energy, pharmaceuticals, materials, and other industries. The project will be financed by the Next Generation funds from the European Commission's Recovery Plan for Europe, part of the España Digital 2026 programme and the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy (ENIA). A press release from the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre announcing this project is available here. A press release with additional details from IQM is available here.
