In March of this year, the European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) issued a call for proposals for European supercomputing centers to host the installation of a quantum computer at their facility. They have now announced a selection of six sites in the countries of Czechia, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, and Poland that will have quantum computers installed and available by the second half of 2023. The total budget for the project will be €100 Million ($97M USD) with half of the funds contributed by the European Union through the EuroHPC JU and the other half contributed by the host countries. The project is intended to only incorporate European technology and leverage various European investments in quantum through EU-funded quantum initiatives, national research programs, and private investments. More information about this program can be found in the official announcement from the European Union here and related announced from the IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Centre in Czechia here and the Leibniz Super-computing Centre (LRZ) in Germany here.
