In consecutive days this week, Universal Quantum announced that it is participating in two different consortium projects that have won sizable awards. The first consortium is led by Universal Quantum and includes a £7.5 million grant from from Innovate UK’s Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund to build an error-corrected quantum computer that can be applied to help solve high-impact problems in the aerospace industry.. These types of problems can include development of sustainable aviation fuels and design of next generation jet engines. Other members of the consortium include Rolls-Royce, Hartree Centre, Riverlane, Edwards, TMD Technologies, Diamond Microwave, Sia Partners, Qureca, Imperial College London and the University of Sussex. Additional information about this program can be found in an article posted on Medium here.
The second consortium will be led by by sureCore with a goal to develop advanced cryogenic semiconductor IP and be funded with £6.5 Million from Innovate UK’s £36M ISCF project . Other members of the consortium besides sureCore and Universal Quantum include Oxford Instruments Nanotechnology Tools, SEEQC UK, SemiWise, Synopsys and the University of Glasgow. The project will develop the necessary IP for classical electronics to operate at low temperatures so that it can physically nearer to the qubits.
