An in depth report on the USA quantum tech workforce

We share excerpts of USA Quantum Tech Workforce Data collected in early 2021. Our methodology consisted in creating exhaustive lists of vendors, startups, users, academia and government entities engaged in Quantum Tech. Based on these lists we identified < 2,500 individuals actively working in Quantum Tech. For each of them we collected key metrics - the aggregate of which is shared below.

This chart shows the distribution of the USA Quantum Tech workforce by job titles as categorized and cleaned based on high level occupations. We observe that the workforce is strongly skewed towards basic research, which, while important, does not support to required variety in job functions, nor the engineering needed to implement it.

This chart shows the distribution of the USA Quantum Tech workforce by Quantum Tech application. We observe a strong bias towards Quantum Computing, especially hardware. And while it is positive to note significant efforts in Quantum Algorithms, only a very small part of the workforce works in Basic Science. Other QIS applications take only a small share of the human resources.
